One World Student Film Bursaries - Home

The Trust's Student Bursary Scheme offers financial and editorial assistance to film students so they can make their final year documentary film abroad. These young filmmakers are given the opportunity to record personal stories from around the world and to share these stories with larger audiences. The aim is to encourage outstanding young filmmakers to tackle issues that affect the wider world without pointing their cameras at disaster, disease and dictatorships, which is all too often the focus of media coverage.

Currently, the One World Student Film Bursaries fall into two categories. Firstly, the Trust awards modest grants to film students studying in the UK, to help them go to a developing country to make their film. Secondly, the scheme supports overseas film students so they can come to the UK and make a film that reflects on the interconnectedness of different countries and cultures. In 2007, the Trust supported nine UK film students and three overseas film students, who came from India, Cuba and South Africa.

The UK scheme will take on a new form in 2008. The Trust will aim to provide more comprehensive support to the successful students, by organising a two-day workshop before the students go overseas, and hosting an in-depth feedback session once the programme is complete. Read more:
